Calendar Girls
Saturday 20 July 2013, 14:30
Do you really know the story of Calendar Girls? Why does a group of ordinary women undertake such an extraordinary venture?
When Annie's husband John dies of leukaemia, she and best friend Chris resolve to raise money for a new settee in the local hospital waiting room. They persuade fellow WI members to join them in posing nude for an 'alternative' WI calendar. The play explores the effects of the calendar's success on the women’s relationships with each other, their husbands, those in authority and others trying to take advantage of what becomes an international phenomenon. The humour and sadness demonstrates the support that these women show to their friend in time of need.
Based on the true story of eleven WI members who posed nude for a calendar to raise money for the Leukaemia Research Fund, Calendar Girls was the fastest selling play in British theatre history: make sure you get your ticket now!
